ALESSANDRA MONTESI
Alessandra Montesi is a painter and illustrator who lives and works in Rome. She graduated in Fashion Design at the IED and later in "Fumetto" at the Comics in Rome. After that, she worked in Florence as a model maker for numerous fashion brands, and during this period, she deepened her study in a painting by exploring different techniques. Soon after, she decided to integrate her studies with restoration and started working at the "Sectilia", where she matured her love for Ancient Art and gained inspiration for her work.
Montesi's art reflects the artist's multifaceted path, and each element is the result of in-depth cultural research and an exploration of visual perceptions full of emotion and introspection. The artist's language is surreal and fairytale-like and, at the same time, traces a path that refers to the typical pictorial suggestions of the French and English miniaturists of the 18th and 19th centuries. For instance, her works from the "Lover's Eye" series were born from this study, a contemporary reinterpretation of the jewels that lovers exchanged in the past as a token of love.
In contamination of contemporary and ancient pictorial suggestions and, in particular, inspired by the new surrealism born in the USA, Montesi has inserted a veiled pop iconography into the shapes of the traditional Lover's eyes and bound the use of ancient fabrics by fusing painting with craftsmanship, giving life to an unprecedented and original combination. At the same time, ethereal and challenging, Montesi's Lover's Eye conceal a darker and deeper nature that reveals the soul of memory and its nostalgia. The award-winning artist has exhibited her works in numerous galleries across Europe
