Joe Sorren USA, b. 1970
20 x 20 in
"This piece is quintessentially embodying the poetry typical of Joe Sorren: the playful vibe is expressed thanks to colors and also it is due to the fun dialog the two characters are sort of having. In fact the question "What are you doing?" is being explained by the body language of the kid who is establishing a conversation with the bird figure, that is somehow silently just listening for now (the eyes closed are a sign of reflection and state of peace). The setting is quite dreamy: we are immersed in water as much as the two main characters and the landscape is bright and characterized by a summer vibe. There is joy of life, tenderness and intimacy all crammed together. Sorren is capable of grasping a simple moment that speaks to everyone. The viewer is delighted by such an unusual conversation, and the narrative strength of this piece is what makes the viewer happy to be part of this scene as a witness. It does not matter that the fellow bird cannot or does not actually speak: kids have the power to engage with the others on the same level of animals, meaning going beyond words and logic."
