This painting tells the story of the duality of consciousness and unconsciousness. I created it from the pervasive feelings of this whole year having a waking dreamlike, and sometimes nightmarish, feeling. As though I’m ready to wake up from what’s happening, and return to reality. This painting is meant to pose the question if the figure is conscious, or dreaming? The two different coloured eyes represent reality, in blue, and the teal one is the dreamscape, since it’s not a naturally occurring eye color. The rest of the piece is for viewers to interpret if they’re seeing this figure’s reality, or a dream.
