"My work has always been about finding that ‘sweet-spot’ between beauty and horror. For this series, I worked with imagery of sweets and pastries, food that people often find desirable, and I thought it would be fun to turn this familiarity and sweetness into something strange and unexpected. As a Singaporean, who has lived abroad for some years, I find myself in situations where food from my culture appears strange (and sometimes even repulsive) to people unfamiliar with our cuisine. I found it intriguing that food can elicit that broad spectrum of emotions, and that’s why it became a strong theme in my work." - QimmyShimmy
