The Dorothy Circus Gallery enthusiastically announces the opening of its new exhibition, a seminal event marking the commencement of our 2024 program. Launching on February 17th at our Rome venue, the dual solo exhibitions ‘Each Other’ and ‘Blue Warmth’ merges the artistic expressions of Clementine Bal and Yu Gyeong Cheon.
This fusion aligns with the year's theme 'Pursuing Harmony', inspired by the numerology of the number 24, proposing an exploration of how themes such as family, friendship, and self-trust intertwine in contemporary art.
Clementine Bal, a distinguished French sculptress, showcases her most evocative works. In her series "Each Other", Bal delves into human connections, emphasizing a tenderness that transcends the visible, resonating with the chords of empathy and intimacy that explore the fundamental sentiment of Amitiè. Her sculptures, a unique blend of Pop Surrealism and 'Cutism', evoke a sense of nostalgia and wonder. Influenced by artists like Mark Ryden and Hayao Miyazaki, Clementine Bal shapes soft-looking creatures that are both a play of imagination and a profound reflection on relational dynamics.
The emerging Korean painter Yu Gyeong Cheon, on her large canvases adorned with exquisite pastel hues, captures the essence of Friendship, narrating its depths through the poignant poetry of relationships between humans and animals. Caught in an embrace against backdrops sprinkled with flowers, she reveals a delicate introspection. The central theme is the pursuit of an unbreakable bond whose silent presence combats loneliness. Her new series “Blue Warmth”, is a refined visual narrative of “Fidelitas”, leading us on a hypnotic and engaging emotional journey.
The works of Clementine Bal and Yu Gyeong Cheon together forge a visual dialogue that perfectly embodies the theme of Harmony.
Each piece in the exhibition is a story in itself, a window into the artist’s unique perception of their emotional bonds. This synergy offers visitors a variety of perspectives on friendship, loyalty, and connections in a dialogue between contemporary painting and sculpture.
The exhibition will open with a vernissage exclusive to Collectors, Press, and Friends of the DCG on Saturday, February 17th at 17:00. It will be open to the public by appointment from February 20th to March 9th.
