NATEEPOL: Love In 3020 - A Thousand Ways to Love Yourself: Dorothy Circus London | Solo Exhibition

25 Oct - 21 Nov 2024
DCG London is honored to unveil "LOVE IN 3020: A Thousand Ways to Love Yourself," a highly anticipated solo exhibition by visionary Thai artist Nateepol, opening on October 25th. This exhibition signifies a pivotal moment in the artist’s trajectory, following his critically acclaimed and sold-out debut in Bangkok in 2022. Through this new body of work, Nateepol delves deep into the intersection of romanticism and futuristic introspection, crafting a visual language that speaks to the human spirit’s most profound aspirations.
A native of Chiangmai, Thailand, Nateepol has captivated audiences with his emotionally charged acrylic paintings and meticulously hand-engraved woodblock prints, characterized by vibrant palettes that resonate with both intensity and subtlety. His art is a delicate balancing act between the timeless surrealism of René Magritte and the more visceral, pop-infused surrealism of contemporary times. Like Magritte, Nateepol’s work invites the viewer to challenge conventional reality, but where Magritte dwelled in the paradoxes of existence, Nateepol extends the conversation into the future, conjuring a world where astronauts float amidst fish and flowers, suspended in a liminal space between the real and the imagined.

In Nateepol’s vision, this futuristic landscape goes beyond the striking beautiful scenario —it is a philosophical statement on the role of love and self-awareness in a post-modern world increasingly dominated by technology. His works ask us to consider: in an era where human relationships are often mediated through screens, can love—romantic, platonic, and self-directed—remain the essence of our humanity? His floating figures, adrift in vast marine worlds, evoke the mysteries of the unconscious, much like the ethereal clouds to be further explored, positing love as a radical, vital force that transcends time, space, and digital barriers.

The new body of work, "LOVE IN 3020," aims to be a meditation on love’s survival in a hyperconnected society, where intimacy and distance coexist in unprecedented ways. The recurring oceanic motifs in Nateepol’s work, a nod to his personal roots, take on deeper significance as metaphors for the endless emotional landscapes within us. The sea, as a symbol of introspection and depth, serves as the stage for his mysterious lovers—individuals adrift yet united, navigating the intricate tides of self-acceptance and human connection. The use of electric blues amplifies this dreamlike quality, while contrasting crimson tones thread through the compositions, binding together symbolic elements of white daisies and sunflowers, fish, and astronauts, creating a palpable tension between the earthly and the transcendent.

"LOVE IN 3020: A Thousand Ways to Love Yourself" is a profound exploration of what it means to exist, love, and be human in an age where the boundaries of reality are increasingly fluid. Nateepol’s work does not just evoke wonder; it challenges us to look inward, asking if love—intangible yet essential—might be the key to navigating both the present and the future. In this way, his art serves as both a mirror and a compass, guiding us through the complexities of modern existence with grace, imagination, and emotional depth.
