MISTER SASQUATCH & FARLEY DEL ROSARIO: Dorothy Circus Gallery | Double Solo Exhibition

8 - 28 Nov 2024
Dorothy Circus Gallery in Rome is thrilled to present a mesmerizing dual exhibition that brings together the visionary works of Filipino artists Mark Jeffrey Santos, known in the street art world as “Mister Sasquatch” and Farley del Rosario. This showcase, titled Place of Solace for Santos and Distorted Frequencies for del Rosario, immerses viewers in the artists' fantastical realms where the boundaries between fantasy, reality, and surrealism are delightfully blurred.
Mark Jeffrey Santos, or "Mister Sasquatch" is renowned for his cinematic compositions that echo the animated dreams of Miyazaki, reimagined with a unique Southeast Asian narrative. His latest series, Place of Solace, transports viewers to tranquil yet enigmatic landscapes, enveloped in the quiet beauty of nature. His series unfolds like a contemplative portrait beneath an autumnal canopy of red leaves, featuring a young figure bathed in a soft, introspective glow. The red leaves fall gently around the figure, creating an atmosphere of quiet solitude that invites the viewer into a personal, meditative space. Santos uses this scene to evoke a sense of nostalgia and peace, inviting audiences to find comfort within the simple beauty of nature and memory.
Farley del Rosario, with his series Distorted Frequencies, presents an entirely different yet complementary world—one filled with whimsical figures and surreal landscapes that are both humorous and thought-provoking. Del Rosario’s featured paintings in this exhibition portray a lively eccentric characters ether playing a guitar or under a retro, dream-like setup reminiscent of music icons and classical references. This surreal scenes blend vibrant colors with playful exaggeration, capturing a sense of joy and chaos, reflecting del Rosario’s playful approach to reinterpreting cultural and cinematic imagery. His work, grounded in personal memories and dreams, challenges viewers to find new meanings in the familiar, as each character and element seems to come alive with hidden stories and narratives.
Together, Santos and del Rosario engage in a visual dialogue that explores themes of escapism, introspection, and the intricate dance between reality and fantasy. Santos’s Place of Solace invites viewers into moments of quiet reflection, whereas del Rosario’s Distorted Frequencies brings a lively, chaotic energy that sparks curiosity and wonder. Through their distinct visual languages, both artists provoke thought and delight, offering a rich array of experiences that speak to the inner child and the daydreamer in us all.
