The Private View of the events will take place on 17th, 18th and 19th February 2021 by appointment only.
As previously explored by other DCG artists, such as the street artist MILLO, with Masakatsu Sashie we intend to move further with the research dedicated to urban spaces of everyday life, this time considering it through the visionary and surreal key of this extraordinary Japanese artist that is linked to the post-war atmosphere of Tetsuya Ishida.
On the one hand, Masakatsu’s inspiration is connected to industrial landscapes, reworking the post-punk nuances of Japanese hyper-contemporaneity, and on the other hand to the profound oriental spirituality that characterises his origins. This duality is reified by a process of fragmentation of the city landscapes that are isolated, compressed and reconstructed, floating in space like the many wandering castles of Hayao Miyazaki.
Just as Laurent Chehere through his dreamlike architectures, Sashie places his works’ nucleus into a single entity at the center of the canvas. The planets, created by the artist, represent the Yin and Yang of contemporary society, in which he is able to incorporate both the greatest riches produced by the widespread capitalism, and its weaknesses and critical issues represented by the waste that ruthlessly emerges in the globe’s representation: a constant reference to the flow of time, in the land that spins, from the past to the present, to the future, and to start over in a loop.
We are happy to inform you that together with LOOP, our Gallery in Rome will hold a reprise of two past exhibitions: Mirrored Souls by Bobby Leash and Parade of Emotions by BLIC. With the global pandemic causing disruption to all of our lives, we hope that this reprise can offer you the chance to see the stunning works of these two artists.
