I wanted to modernise the tragic story of Lucrezia. The head piece was taken from a creation made by a designer friend, Keren Wolf, a wedding head piece that is, in my mind, very surreal. Extra-large pearls are a symbol of beauty as well as grotesqueness, just like the idea of the beautiful Lucrezia being forced to marry for the sake of family success.
Beautiful and heroic.
On the day of her wedding, I imagine she was probably feeling proud about the roll that she had taken to help advance the family role in history. There is a lot of nativity in her eyes, unaware of the reality of married life for women of her class. I try to convey a sense of emptiness and delusion in these pieces, yet with the beauty of naivety and fearlessness only a young woman could have.
