"In art, I want to portray a "woman" as a real human being with her own emotions and will rather than a woman with a biased and idealized image. Therefore, I would be extremely happy if women viewed my work. The target that comes to my mind when I consider my art is actually myself, and I especially think of when I was a young and little girl. In Japan, where gender inequality is a serious problem, I have experienced this issue, as to say, not being able to accept myself as a woman. I’d like to create something that I wished I saw and had. It may be the strongest wish I’ve ever had but it will help me accept and affirm myself as a woman" - Karin Iwabuchi
