Juli About was born in Avignon in 1974 and today lives and works in Nîmes. She spent a few years in Toulouse and Paris, where she embarked on a path dedicated to contemporary jewellery and plastic arts and theatre studies. Juli found herself in the world of porcelain almost by chance, discovering a personal bond with the material, which for the artist represents emotional fragility.
The artist takes on the responsibility of treating a precious and delicate material: porcelain. To this element, she associates the poetics of her works in profound research linked to the body, intimacy and the space surrounding her. The artist questions the limit between the body and the landscape, paying particular attention to the body's receptiveness and the delicacy of the skin in its environment.
In her research, she questions the different elements that affect the skin: what enters, what comes out, what nourishes it and what harms it. The invisible dialogue between the inside and outside of oneself.
The artistic research of Juli About is also widely developed on the theme of femininity and the exploration of the female story. The Artist actively participates in anti-violence against women campaigns with a series of works dedicated to women's rights. These emotional artworks give a voice to the stories of female intimacy.
Juli About's art moves the strings of interiority and exteriority, vulnerability and ambivalence. Like all the works on ex-votos, the heart is what holds the most of our body and ourselves. The heart is a metaphor and a rhetorical figure at the same time used to represent the landscape of which we too are part. Juli chooses each part of the body as a metaphor for grace received from nature. In this exploration of resonances, the artist invites us to take care of ourselves and each fragment of our bodies.
